Balancing openness and focus at Velaris’ new office in Breda

An open-plan office encourages collaboration and keeps a workspace feeling light and connected. But without the right furniture, that same openness can bring too many distractions and too little quiet for focused work. When designing the new office for Velaris in Breda, spread across 8 workstations, one question guided every decision: how do you combine an open, collaborative floor plan with genuine focus and flexibility?

A complete office fit-out

To answer that question, we put together a considered mix of furniture that lets the space serve both purposes at once. The interior includes:

•             Flexible sit-stand desks

•             Ergonomic office chairs

•             Planter cabinets as natural room dividers

•             Desk dividers for extra privacy

•             Two phone booths for calls and focused work

•             A dedicated meeting room

Each element was chosen to work together, so the office never has to choose between openness and concentration.

Comfort and ergonomics at the center

Every workstation is built around flexibility. The sit-stand desks and ergonomic chairs can be adjusted to each individual’s preferences, and because the setup is consistent throughout the office, employees can switch desks freely without losing that comfort. It’s a setup that supports both focused solo work and easy collaboration, depending on what the moment calls for.

A modern look with a natural touch

Rather than closing the office off with solid walls, we used planter cabinets to create a natural separation between workstations. They soften the sightlines across the floor, add a layer of greenery, and keep the atmosphere calm without making the space feel boxed in. Combined with the two phone booths and the separate meeting room, the result is an office where people can find quiet when they need it and stay connected to the rest of the team when they don’t.
